 help me!

Hey all you K. Dick geeks :o)

I hope that you can help me here...

I'm searching for a short story by Philip that I read a long time ago and I can't remember the name... (goofy me!)
It's about a guy, who travels to work through somekind of teleport-tunnel. Here he discoveres somekind of gap... a hole in the side of the tunnel where a tiny people live. They (the tiny people) sees him, and thinks he's their God. Every day the main character is looking forward to seeing these tiny people again, but their world seems to be moving faster through time than himself... so all of a sudden there is a war going on and all...
I think the guy tries to manipulate them by throwing a tiny piece of paper in to them where he has written something...

Anyone know the title? And maybe wich collection I can find it in...

Regards
Another geek from Denmark ;o)

Although I don't consider myself a K. Dick geek, I have found what you are looking for.

The title is "Prominent Author" and can be found in Volume 2 of the Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick. The subtitle to the collection is "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale".

It is an interesting story, isn't it?

Okay... that kinda narrows it down. But I can't find a review of any of the two short stories so I'm still not sure which one :o/
I know for a fact that I've read "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale", but I also read some stories that were translated... Both your guesses sound plausible...
Hope if you find a review somewhere you'll contact me again.

okay - thank you nano!

Yes indeed it is an interesting story! I only have this vague memory about it, as I said in my first post, but what I recall of it, is very cool. A shame mr. Dick died! I read somewhere that he was on the set of Blade Runner and that he was very happy about what was happening :o) at least the died happy, you know!?

"Prominent Author" is part of PKD's series "Second Variety" (Vol. 2) and not "We can remember it for you wholesale"

I am holding my copy of "We can remember it for you wholesale" and find "Prominent Author" on page 21.

I seem to recall he expanded the tele-port concept into a novel, "the crack in space", where the solution to an overcrowded world seems to have been found in a "crack' located in the tele-port device.

Grafton, 1999, UK, paperback of 'we can remember it for you wholesale' - doesn't have any mention of Prominent Author.

It looks like the 5-volume series of collected stories has had name changes over the years.

www.philipkdick.com lists a book entitled , "The Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick, Vol. 2, Second Variety (also known as "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale")". This book lists "prominent Author" in it's contents.

The book I have called "Second Variety" was also known as "The Father-Thing".

So we are all correct.

By the way, the 5-volume set is a great collection of short stories.

Yeah, read "prominent Author" and then THE CRACK IN SPACE. Together these would make a good introduction to PKD's work.
