HISTORY:

Arriving at the SMLA on Oct 21, 1952, the manuscript for "Jon’s World" (originally titled simply "Jon") somehow ended up in August Derleth’s collection TIME TO COME in 1954. TIME TO COME had at least four separate editions between 1954 and 1965. But other than that the story never again saw the light of day until the second volume of THE COLLECTED STORIES in 1987. There have been no comments on it that I can find. This is surprising as "Jon’s World" is a sequel to "Second Variety" set on Earth after the Claws have destroyed each other.

Going back in time to retrieve the papers of the scientist who invented the Claw brains, the time-travelers get the papers but kill the scientist in the process. This naturally changes things in the future and, for once, it’s to the good.
