HISTORY

This little tale of a psychic vampire who trades cookies for children’s life force is effective, even memorable when one thinks about it. I think it would’ve made a good script for Rod Serling’s Night Gallery or The Twilight Zone.

Published first in Fantasy Fiction in June 1953, "The Cookie Lady" was selected for PKD’s first collection, A HANDFUL OF DARKNESS in 1955. It has been intermittently anthologized since then, notably in ALFRED HITCHCOCK PRESENTS: THE MASTER’S CHOICE published by Doubleday in 1979. It is the first story in the second volume of THE COLLECTED STORIES.
